4 Ladies Thinking Of Me
by DeM0NiCk on May 9, 2009, under Music
Haha! I bet the title caught your attention, but I only wish it was true! What’s really happening is that I’ve been constantly browsing YouTube to feature talented unknown artists here on my blog. Well, as you know, I’m a huge fan of Cathy Nguyen, however when I saw her latest video doing Katy Perry’s cover "Thinking Of You", I was left rather disappointed simply because I found several other covers which sounds a bit better (sorry Cathy). Anyway, I thought in her video, she was trying a little too hard to sound different in some parts of the song which kinda ruined it for my liking (I think I’m starting to sound like Simon Cowell of American Idol). Here are 4 different videos of the same song. You tell me which one is the best..
Cover #1: by Traci Hines
Cover #2: by Jana M Verdes
Cover #3: by Cathy Nguyen
Cover #4: by Kate McGill
Personally, I think Kate McGill’s cover is the best. Could even possibly be the next big thing to come out of YouTube. What do you think? Which is your favorite?
Janice Vidal – Serving You
by DeM0NiCk on March 6, 2009, under Music
Janice Vidal Wei Lan (衛蘭) is probably one of the hottest talents to come out of Hong Kong. I’ve been following her music since her last 2 albums “My Love” and “Do U Know” released in 2005 and 2006 respectively. Ever since then, I fell in love with her music, not because she has a high vocal range, but because her songs are always bubbly and cheerful. Sure there are of course sappy love songs as well, but heck…a hot chick with a nice voice…what’s there not to like?
Her latest album titled "Serving You” was actually released back in November last year. But it wasn’t until one of my colleagues played the CD in the office one morning and I knew it was her new album instantly. From the first time I heard this new album, I loved it….loved it enough to buy the CD on the very same day after hearing it just once. That’s how good it is! Ever since then, I’m hooked…my colleague also thinks I’m obsessed with her because I kept repeating the songs.
Here are the track listings for the CD:
01. 就算世界無童話
02. My Cookie Can
03. 陰天假期
04. 雜技
05. 你知道我在等你們分手嗎?
06. 如水
07. 愛深過做人
08. 我愛呼吸
09. 比我想像中愛你
10. 寒命
11. 退
12. 主角愛我
13. Reality
14. 無所謂
If you have seen my status’ on Facebook and MSN Messenger, you will know that I’m currently hooked on the song “My Cookie Can”. I also like the last track 無所謂, which means “Nevermind (…I think)”. Just to show you how hooked I am to the “Cookie Can” song, I’ve even found the music video on YouTube! Haha!
Overall, I think this album is absolutely fantastic! Definitely worth a purchase if you are into the whole Canto Pop thing.
My rating: 5/5 – Excellent!

Joanna Wang – The Adult Storybook

Joanna Wang (王若琳) is a Taiwanese singer-songwriter born in Taipei but raised in Los Angeles. Her debut album, Start From Here, was released in January 2008 as a double-disc set, one in English and the other in Chinese. Her debut album reached #1 in Taiwan and has been popular throughout the Southeast Asian region.
I first heard about her sometime last year when Rock Corner was doing a promotion on her debut CD. From the moment I listened to her, I knew she was going to be something big and true enough, she became exactly just that. Needless to say, I bought that album and from then on, I’ve been influencing my friends about her.
Her second album features a double CD with the first disc, which mainly consist of Chinese songs, is titled “Joanna & 王若琳” and the second disc titled “New York Terror: The Adult Storybook” which is in English.
Here are the track listings for both CDs:
CD1 - Joanna & 王若琳
1. Tikiville (English)
2. Maybe Some Other Time (English)
3. Vincent" (Don McLean)
4. 一种念头
5. 我的爱
6. Times of Your Life (Roger Nichols, Bill Lane)
7. Tikiville (Chinese)
8. Aubrey" (David Gates)
9. Maybe Some Other Time (Chinese)
10. 玫瑰玫瑰我爱你" (Chen Gexin, Wu Cun)
CD2 – The New York Terror: The Adult Storybook
1. Adult Crap
2. I Guess I’m Paranoid
3. Longing For Romance
4. His Remedy
5. Nobody’s A Nun
6. Even If We Did
7. How I Feel About Businessmen
8. Man
9. Palpitation
10. I’m Pathetic Enough
I must say I am a tad disappointed with this album only because of the Chinese songs that she sings. I think she should just stick to singing in English, because having grown up outside of Taiwan, she sings in a very thick American accent which irritates the hell out of me. It’s like asking Diana Krall to sing in Chinese! Seriously…it’s that bad. However, “The Adult Storybook” in contrast is very good. It consists of lot of original songs making it a worthwhile album to get since it only comes as a double CD package.
My rating: 3.5/5 – The Chinese CD kinda spoiled it for me.

Mariah Carey Performs ‘Hero’ Dedicated to Obama
by DeM0NiCk on January 22, 2009, under Music
“I wrote this song to inspire people that anything is possible. Tonight I think we believe that, a whole lot more. This is for everybody out there with a dream, and of course, I have to dedicate it to our new president.”
That was Mariah’s dedication to U.S. President Barack Obama last night (January 20, 2008) as she took the stage at the first ever Neighborhood Inaugural Ball at the Washington Convention Center in Washington D.C. Mariah proceeded to sing her inspirational 1994 # 1 platinum selling song “Hero” in front of millions of attendees and TV viewers of the historic event. – Source: Mariah Carey Facebook page
Honestly, I don’t know if she was having a bad day, her once known “powerful” voice isn’t as “powerful” as 15 years ago when she first perform the song. But nevertheless….it’s still Mariah and she still makes it sound good. =)
