Diana Krall Live

by DeM0NiCk on October 5, 2008, under Music

As mentioned in previous post, my friends and I went to watch Diana Krall perform at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on the second day of the Hari Raya holidays. Here are some picture which I took discreetly (we weren’t suppose to take pictures, but I did anyway…without flash of course).

While Diana Krall was…well Diana Krall, which was excellent, overall the concert was kind of a let down. All of us felt a bit short changed when the concert only lasted about 1 hour 30 mins. To make it worse, I think the venue was not made to hold acoustic events such as this as I personally feel the sound could have been better. Oh well, it certainly was an experience nevertheless.

After the concert, we adjourned across the street at Sevenatenine for drinks and to chill out.

This last pic was purely for fun ya…so don’t get any stupid ideas! It wasn’t meant to be up, but since my friend decided to post it up on Facebook…so I thought WTH…just let the whole world see it too! Hahaha.. :p

Cathy Nguyen

Cathy Nguyen

Who is she? Well, I just came across a video of hers by accident on YouTube today when I saw this cute girl performing a cover of Jason Mraz’s "Lucky". The first thing that struck me was….she is cute! She performed it with another guy named Aj Rafael (Jason Mraz’z song is a duet with Colbie Caillat) in a bathroom because it supposedly gives them a "more acoustic" sound. And MY GOD…that voice!!! She is not only cute but this girl can also sing!….it was like a "love at first sight" moment!

So after being mesmerized by her voice, I Googled her up in search of more tracks of hers. I eventually stumbled upon her MySpace profile and guess what…I loved all her songs. She does mostly covers but they still sound good anyway. My favorite track at the moment is "Getting Stronger". I’m trying to search for more of her tracks everywhere but it seems she isn’t really well known yet outside the US. She is like one of those independent artistes that are currently not attached to any recording label. But hey…that’s how Marie Digby first got discovered too…on YouTube.

Being so in love with her voice and cuteness, I then manage to find the lyrics to my favorite song…

Getting Stronger

Listen to me I’m feeling afraid
Of something in my life that is wrong
And your trying to tell me that I’m okay
Don’t worry because I am strong

I know it gets hard sometimes but remember that I’m only human
And the things that I face are the same things that you can help me to overcome

I don’t want nobody else
I don’t need somebody else to tell me about love
I am strong on my own
But if you think you can tell me
Why the things I’m doing is going wrong
It’s just me getting stronger

Well I’m here to tell you that I’m ok
That with or without you I’m the same
But don’t get me wrong I’m still waiting for the day
When we can say we went all the way

Life is about all the meaningful things that we get to share with each other
So leave the past behind in each other we’ll find our love is strong again

Pretty meaningful right? But just don’t take my word for it, go check out her songs and also watch how cute she is in those videos and tell me what you think? Oh btw, if you come across any of her CDs or songs in mp3 format…please, please, PLEASE let me know ya… :)

Diana Krall Concert Tickets

by DeM0NiCk on September 4, 2008, under Music

Diana Krall

Woohoo! Diana Krall is coming to Kuala Lumpur…and I just got tickets to watch her perform on 2nd October at KL Convention Centre. I managed to gather a few friends to go watch it with me, and in total…I had to buy like 11 tickets during my lunch break today. The cheapest tickets were going for RM288 and if you’re a Visa card holder, you get it at RM262.20. Quite pricey for a concert ticket if you ask me, considering it’s like the cheapest and the farthest from the stage…but hey…it’s Diana Krall wei! So you can imagine the guy at the ticket counter asking me for a second time if he had heard correctly that I wanted 11 tickets. According to him, at most people buy 3 at a time…because it’s expensive…and I’m the first person who wanted more than 10 tickets at one go! Well, that’s what you get when you got to be the one who buys for a bunch of jazz lovers.

can you count how many tix there are?…hehehe

Anyway, for the price I’m paying, it better not be a disappointment.

Wayang Kata: The Music Edition @ No Black Tie

by DeM0NiCk on August 29, 2008, under Music

I was with some friends at No Black Tie last Tuesday night for Wayang Kata + Moonshine, which is an event where poetry meets jazz music and I got to say it was simply AWESOME. It’s organized by the Malaysian British Council featuring Kim Trusty, Dizzy & The, Najwa, Reza Salleh and Mia Palencia. Highlight was the night was Mia Palencia and also Reza Salleh…obviously.

Mont Kiara Jazz Festival 2008 & Raw

by DeM0NiCk on July 27, 2008, under Music, Parties

I was at Plaza Mont Kiara together with some friends last night for their annual Jazz & Rhythm Festival. The event drew quite a large crowd despite the slight drizzle and there were even a few people who sat under the rain. The highlight of the night was Mia Palencia, a local talent who I personally think would be the next Norah Jones of Malaysia. Her performance was outstanding especially her cover of Jason Mraz’s ‘I’m Yours’.

Like I said, despite the rain, I had fun, especially with the friends I was with, there is never a dull moment.

I had to leave before Mia Palencia’s performance was over because I had to go for another farewell party in Raw @ Solaris. Sigh, this is the second farewell party in a month, and this time is for my friend Elaine (not to be confused with Ee Laine who already left for the States), who is leaving for Singapore in 2 weeks. Well, at least it’s only Singapore and we can still meet up when I’m there (hopefully sometime next month).

Elaine and her sister Waverly….CUT!!!

Take 2 - Elaine & I

All together now…

After Raw, we still somehow manage to go for supper at Sri Hartamas and by the time we finished, it was nearly 4AM. *Yawwnnn!*
