MYMP – Now And Forever

Now & Forever (2009)

MYMP, short for Make Your Momma Proud is one of the acoustic band acts from the Philippines, which consists of 5 members Juris Fernandez, Chin Alcantara, John Angeles, Edward "Oja" Jimenez and Aemil Rivas. Well, as corny as their band name may sound, they are actually one of my favorite acoustic bands. I was first introduced to the band back in 2003 by some of my Filipino ex-colleagues. From then on I was hooked. They mostly play a lot of covers from the 80s and 90s which could be one of the reasons why I love this band so much. Playing classics makes me reminiscence of the past, bringing back so many memories I guess.

Almost each time I played their CD in my car with a passenger on board, they are surely to ask what CD am I listening to, and they will usually be surprised by the fact that it’s an Asian band. They are that good.

I bought their 2009 re-release of their Now album, title Now and Forever about 2 months back which is in 24-bit Audiophile which makes it even better (yes I buy original..you should too!).

Here are the track listings for the CD:

01. Every Little Thing (He Does Is Magic) (Police cover)
02. Baby Don’t You Break My Heart Slow (Vonda Sheppard cover)
03. A Little Bit (original song)
04. Cherish (Madonna cover)
05. These Dreams (Heart cover)
06. Impulsive (Wilson Philips cover)
07. Rush, Rush (Paula Abdul cover)
08. Make It Easy On Me (Steps cover)
09. Dream Without You (original song)
10. Set You Free (Side A cover)
11. Missing You (John Waite cover)
12. Human On The Inside (Divinyls cover)
13. Waiting In Vain (Bob Marley cover)
14. So Perfect (original song)
15. When She Cries (Restless Heart cover)
16. I’ll Never Get Over You Getting Over Me (Expose cover)

As you can see, most of the songs are covers, but there are a few original tracks which are quite good as well. My personal favorite is their cover of Madonna’s Cherish.

My rating: 5/5 – Excellent! (duh!)
Sounds similar to: The Cardigans, Sixpence None the Richer (well kinda, because they sound too original to sound like anyone else!)
