Nike Cortez Free Flywire 2009
by DeM0NiCk on February 20, 2009, under Tidbits
I WANT THIS! The Nike Cortez Free Flywire 2009. The Nike Cortez is one of the longest running sneakers from Nike since 1972. Nike is bringing an updated version of the sneaker for 2009 by adding Free technology, and Flywire technology. Flywire is an ultra strong, paper-thin series of cables that when interwoven into the upper provide superior durability and support in the places the foot needs it most while drastically reducing weight.

If there is one thing I like about these sneakers are their retro look but with a modern twist. There is an array of colors to choose from as well (many not shown here). My personal favourite are the orange ones. I wonder when will they be available here though…

Livin’ It Up @ Hong Kong & Shenzhen
by DeM0NiCk on November 4, 2008, under Parties, Travels
I just got back from a holiday in Hong Kong and Shenzhen for a couple of days and I must say, it was really good to be back there. Well, first of all, my trip was supposed to be during end of November, but was brought forward so that I can meet up with May Lynn there when she "transits" for 5 days, from Korea before flying back to KL. I was also initially supposed to go alone, and was supposed to be a purely shopping trip, but then Mike, my colleague decides to tag along as well. It’s a good thing too as he used to work in Hong Kong for 2 years back in 2002, so he knows where the best places to go are.
So what did we do in Hong Kong and Shenzhen? Well, for me…like intended, it was a shopping trip. For Mike, I think he just enjoys being back for the food and the city after such a long time. I also manage to catch up with old friends as well as meeting new ones.
Well, I won’t be writing a whole report on everything, I will just sum it up with lots of pictures as they always seem to say more anyway…

THE COMPANY…
I met up with May Lynn, Penny, Su-Lin + her family, Melor, Michael and also Vicky. What’s really interesting was because, I have never met Melor and Michael prior to this trip. I used to liaise with them only through phone and emails while working in my previous company. Melor was based in KL before, but strangely enough, we’ve never met at all and Michael is based in Singapore all the while. Now both of them are based in Hong Kong. We kept in touched through MSN and also Facebook all this while (don’t you just love technology?) and finally met for the first time at Discovery Bay at a restaurant overlooking the sea!

SHENZHEN…
Mike, May Lynn, Penny and I went for a day trip to Shenzhen for shopping. It’s about a 45 minutes ride by train to Lo Wu station, which is the border town between Hong Kong and China. We managed to get on-the-spot visa which entitles you for a 5-day pass into China. We expected a long wait for our visa, but to our surprise, it took us less than 10 minutes! Maybe because it’s a weekday that we went. The visa costs HKD150 (approx RM75) in case you want to know.
After the border, we took the subway to Laojie station. So what’s good in Shenzhen? Well…shopping of course. It’s the land of the knock-offs, land of the pirates…anything you want to call it. These places sell Grade-A fakes and you can’t tell the difference really. Just to illustrate what I mean - I saw this pair of limited edition Nike Footscapes Woven which cost around HKG1900 (approx RM950) at Lane Crawford in Hong Kong, and by comparison…I got the same thing (just of a different color) at HKD290 (approx RM145). Cheap isn’t it?
On the bad side, Shenzhen is also known for its snatch theft. My friends and I actually witnessed a guy snatching a girls mobile phone while she was about to board the train! Then, we saw some ruckus amongst a group of people and some policemen! Talk about a dangerous place to be in….but I would still recommend anyone to go there for a day trip….just to shop…but nothing more.

AND THE SO CALL HAPPENING BITS…
In the end, I would say it was a memorable and awesome trip. And mission accomplished (for me…didn’t I say it was a shopping trip??) …I got 3 pairs of limited edition shoes - 1 from Hong Kong, and the other 2 from Shenzhen, Tees from Esprit and Bossini ranging from HKD39 to HKD79 per piece, Polo Tees from HKD 20 per piece, an Armani Exchange bracelet and souvenirs. It was all good…but tiring as well….but would I do it again?….HELL YES!
Decisions

Here is the thing…in my previous post I said I wanted to get those limited edition Woven Airscapes. NOWWWW….I saw something else that I wanted. A new digital camera! The FinePix F50fd . Just look at the features and the review on PC Magazine and you will know what I mean. So how now?? Well honestly, I think it’s a better (or a wiser) decision to be investing on a digital camera rather than a pair of over priced sneakers. But…..that would mean I have to sell my old one! So who wants to buy my old Fuji FinePix F455, do let me know. It’s in extremely good condition for a camera that is slightly over 2 years. Not even a scratch - it looks like it came straight out of the box…honest!
Well what attracted me to the Fuji camera was because it comes with high ISO capability (ISO 6400) and has a night auto-focus PIM. In layman terms, it takes very good night shots. It also comes with the standard anti-shake function. Also, it’s the first camera that takes both xD and SD memory cards, so I can have an option (finally!).
So how?
OR
Well, those who wants my old camera, I’m willing to sell it for around RM 400 (still negotiable though) which comes with an extra battery and extra xD picture cards. But then, I think I will most likely get the camera…wait…sneakers…..no wait…camera….arrrggghhh!!!
I’m a Sneakerhead!
by DeM0NiCk on October 7, 2007, under Tidbits
I finally found a new hobby (well not very new actually, it just didn’t really took off a few years ago), a VERY expensive hobby too, collecting limited edition sneakers and shoes! Well, some people or in fact most people think it’s crazy and a total waste of money, but the truth is….I CAN’T HELP MYSELF! It all started when I bought a pair of rare Adidas Superstar sneakers when I was in Hong Kong, about 2 years ago. Ever since then, I’ve been buying several sneakers (some limited editions), whenever I can. Most of them are bought from overseas as they are relatively hard (sometimes impossible) to get here. I don’t know, I just got a “thing” for these sneakers. Maybe it’s the colors, the designs, but whatever it is, I’m drawn to it. These limited edition sneakers can range from RM400 ++ way up to RM1,500 per pair. Insane? Totally! And as some of you know, I recently purchase a pair of limited edition Puma Miharas during my recent trip to Bangkok.

My pair of limited edition Miharas
I was walking at The Gardens the other day, when I then came across this shop called SoleWhat? which is one of the very few places that sell limited edition shoes in KL. Holy crap! My eyes lit up when I went in. Not because of the interior deco of the shop, but rather the collection of limited edition shoes that they have! They even carry the Onitsuka Tiger brand which I think is the first shop in Malaysia to sell this brand (but I might be wrong here).
Then suddenly from a distance, I could hear a pair calling out my name… As I turned and looked, I saw these beautiful pair of limited edition Nike Woven Air Footscapes! It was love at first sight I tell you. These pair are so rare, that they only have 2 pairs of each color available in Malaysia! Immediately I asked to try on a pair, and they fit PERFECTLY! It was so comfortable, that for a moment, I actually was thinking to make a run for it after putting both sides on! Haha…well, only problem is…it’s freaking RM750 bucks!
Love at first sight! The Hideout x Nike Woven Air Footscape
The one I saw was in black and red stripe, with a transparent “gel” sole. Siigghh! Now there is a huge temptation for me to get one, and I’ve been contemplating whether to get it or not for a few days already. Only thing is, I just got a pair of Pumas and I think I need a bit of time to recuperate. If I were to get it, it will mean I have to sacrifice my other spendings, but if I don’t, I might not be able to see or get them ever again! (did I mention there are only 2 pairs in Malaysia?) Arrrgghh! Decisions decisions. Help! Maybe you can start a donation drive to help raise funds for me to get that pair? Hahah…we shall see if it’s fated for me to get it or not then.
